Attorney

Colin James Beisel is a trial lawyer with Youman & Caputo. A former U.S. Army prosecutor, Beisel is a Philadelphia catastrophic injury attorney who has recovered, and helped recover, numerous seven and eight-figure settlements and verdicts that have helped his clients put their lives back together.

Over the years, Beisel has represented individuals and families in some of the most significant, high-impact personal injury cases across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His work has resulted in substantial verdicts and settlements in matters involving medical negligence, catastrophic injury, and sexual abuse.

In 2023, as first chair trial counsel, he obtained a $4.75 million federal jury verdict on behalf of a young man rendered paraplegic after being negligently shot in the neck. The year prior, he secured one of the largest medical malpractice judgments in Scranton, Pennsylvania, resulting in a $1.25 million award. In 2020, he was part of a trial team that represented a young transgender woman who had been sexually assaulted at a juvenile residential center, culminating in one of the largest sexual abuse settlements for a transgender person in Pennsylvania history. Earlier, in 2019, he helped secure a landmark eight-figure recovery in a premises liability action for a young client rendered quadriplegic—among the largest single-plaintiff settlements in the Commonwealth.

In addition to his practice with Youman & Caputo, Beisel serves as a Captain and Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army Reserve JAG Corps. He currently serves as criminal defense counsel in New York, representing Soldiers in courts-martial and military tribunals throughout the country. His prior assignments include service as a military prosecutor for a medical command (deployment support) in Dallas and Salt Lake City, as well as Deputy Chief of Military Justice for a military police command responsible for overseeing global detention operations of enemy combatants. Beisel has also served as Special Victims’ Counsel, representing survivors of sexual abuse in the Army and ensuring their voices are heard in courts-martial.

A committed advocate for patient safety, he is regularly invited to speak at physician conferences, grand rounds, and medical schools on issues involving medical negligence, physician and nursing liability, and the civil justice system. His professional and civic involvement includes service on the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association and on the Board of Directors of the Modern Military Association of America in Washington, D.C.

His work has been recognized by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers, which has named him a Rising Star each year since 2018—an honor reserved for the top 2.5 percent of attorneys under 40 in the state. In 2023, the Philadelphia Business Journal selected him as a “Best of the Bar” honoree, one of only two attorneys recognized in the plaintiff personal injury category.

Beisel earned his A.B. from John Carroll University and his J.D. from The University of Akron School of Law, where he served as an assistant editor of the law review and competed as a member of the nationally ranked Trial Team Honor Society. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School at the University of Virginia.
